What Happens If You Don’t Change Your Oil?
Oil is the lifeblood of your vehicle, but what happens if you don’t get your oil changed often enough? Although you might not notice problems right away, drivers who fail to secure regular oil changes on Guam will start to notice significant drops in performance. Those who go too long might even experience a breakdown, or damage their engine permanently.
What Does The Oil Do?
Oil lubricates the engine and allows every component in this complex machine to function exactly as it should. No less importantly, oil absorbs heat and transports it away in order to prevent overheating as you drive. If you don’t get your oil changed on time, your engine will fill up with dirt and debris collected by the oil, and you’ll start to notice a drop in fuel economy or slower acceleration.
If you’ve gone far too long without your oil change, you’ll probably also start to notice a higher operating temperature in your vehicle, or on your temperature gauge. In extreme cases, the failure to provide clean oil can cause your pistons to absorb too much heat–and when this happens, they can fuse themselves straight to the cylinders. This can lead to a full breakdown, and it might even end your vehicle’s time on the roads of Tinian or Rota.
How Often Should I Change My Vehicle’s Oil?
Drivers used to have their oil changed once every three months or so, but thanks to advances in technology, most can go much longer in between appointments. In general, we think that drivers should schedule an oil change once every 7,500 to 10,000 miles, or roughly one to two times a year. How Do I Change It Myself?
If you’d like to change your oil on your own, there are a few things you should know before you get started. In the first place, you’re going to want to make sure you have the right type of oil for your vehicle. You’re also going to want to secure a new oil filter at your local Guam parts and service center.
When you’re ready to get started, you’ll want to start by draining the old oil from your vehicle. Find the plug underneath the engine compartment, and remember to replace the filter after the old fluid drains out. Then, simply secure the cap and add more oil until you’ve reached the proper recommended level. The process is pretty easy on the whole, but if you’d like to save time and energy, you can always schedule service at Triple J Guam.
