Honda Oil Type

oil change on a car

Have you recently brought home a new Honda SUV, specifically the Odyssey, Pilot, or CR-V? The last thing you’re probably thinking of is bringing your Honda in for its next oil change near Guam. Even if you have a new Honda, getting regular oil changes is one of the most important parts of your vehicle’s regular maintenance schedule. If you use conventional oil, you should get an oil change every 3,000 to 5,000 miles, or twice a year. Synthetic oil, on the other hand, lasts longer than conventional oil and requires changing every 7,000 to 10,000 miles. Using the exact oil grade for your Honda also plays a crucial role in the functionality and longevity of your vehicle on Guam roads. Triple J Guam breaks down the recommended Honda CR-V, Honda Odyssey, and Honda Pilot oil types in the guide below,

Oil Types for Popular Honda Vehicles

Honda Odyssey Oil Type: 0W-20 or 5W-30

The recommended Honda Odyssey oil type depends on the model year. If you have a Honda Odyssey from 2010 or earlier, the recommended Honda Odyssey oil type is 5W-30. 0W-20 is the recommended oil type for any Odyssey model after 2010. As for conventional or synthetic oil, it’s recommended that you choose a full-synthetic blend to go longer in between oil changes.

Honda Pilot Oil Type: 0W-20

Just like the Honda Odyssey, the recommended Honda Pilot Oil type is 0W-20. Of course, other model years might require different oil. Consult your vehicle’s owner manual for the exact recommended Honda Pilot oil type, or check it on your engine’s oil cap.

Honda CR-V Oil Type: 0W-20

The recommended Honda CR-V oil type is, you guessed it, 0W-20. A full-synthetic grade is recommended for your Honda CR-V.

Understanding Honda Oil Types

So, now you know what the recommended Honda oil types are, what do these numbers mean? The number before the W is the viscosity rating of the oil at lower temperatures. The lower the number, the thinner the oil is during colder temperatures. You’ll notice that the numbers preceding the W are lower which may seem like a “bad” thing, but this is actually good. Thinner oil is ideal for colder temperatures in Federated States of Micronesia, as it allows your Honda to perform better in unfavorable weather. The number after the W describes the viscosity of the oil during fair temperatures, so again, the lower the number, the thinner the oil.
