2026 Honda CR-V — The Compact SUV That Keeps Getting Better

Some vehicles earn their reputation year after year, and the Honda CR-V is exactly that kind of vehicle. For 2026, it continues its streak as one of the most practical, comfortable, and reliable compact SUVs on the road. Whether you’re commuting, carpooling, or loading up for a road trip, the CR-V just works. And for 2026, Honda has made it better than ever with meaningful tech upgrades, a new off-road variant, and a refined hybrid powertrain that’s hard to ignore.

What’s New for the 2026 Honda CR-V?

Honda’s best-selling vehicle gets a styling refresh and a cabin tech update for the 2026 model year. Improvements for every trim level include a larger touchscreen, standard wireless charging, and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility even in the base model.

The big news is the arrival of a new TrailSport edition. All-terrain tires make it more capable on the trail, with black trim and orange TrailSport badges setting it apart visually. TrailSport buyers also find easy-clean rubber floor mats and amber lighting inside.

Engine & Performance

The 2026 CR-V gives you a choice of two proven powertrains:

1.5L Turbocharged 4-Cylinder (Gas trims — LX, EX, EX-L)

Standard power comes in the form of a 1.5-liter DOHC turbocharged 190-horsepower 4-cylinder engine paired with an advanced CVT, delivering up to 33 mpg on the highway. It’s smooth, responsive, and well-suited for everything from daily commuting to weekend road trips.

2.0L Hybrid (Sport Hybrid, TrailSport, Sport-L, Sport Touring)

The available 204-horsepower hybrid powertrain offers sporty acceleration and received a 43/36 mpg city/highway rating in FWD configuration. The hybrid system is particularly strong in stop-and-go city driving, where it easily recovers energy and keeps fuel costs low.

Available Real Time AWD helps maximize available traction and confident handling in various road conditions, and is offered across both powertrain families.

Fuel Economy

The 2026 CR-V offers some of the best fuel economy in its class, especially in hybrid form:

  • Gas 1.5T (FWD): 28 city / 33 highway / 30 combined mpg
  • Gas 1.5T (AWD): 27 city / 31 highway / 29 combined mpg
  • Hybrid (FWD): 43 city / 36 highway / 40 combined mpg
  • Hybrid (AWD): 40 city / 34 highway / 37 combined mpg
  • TrailSport Hybrid (AWD): 38 city / 33 highway / 35 combined mpg

For drivers who put on a lot of city miles, the hybrid’s 43 mpg city rating makes a compelling case for stepping up from the gas model.

Interior Space & Comfort

The 2026 CR-V punches well above its class when it comes to interior room. The CR-V can seat five, and both rows are huge. Even very tall drivers can sit up front and leave enough space for a 6-foot-4 person to sit comfortably behind them. The CR-V officially has 41 inches of rear legroom, but it feels like more. Both rows are supportive and cushy, with no hard slab in the back or lack of lumbar support in front.

The second row also has split-folding seats with recline, and excellent headroom of 38.2 inches and shoulder room of 55.9 inches. Compared to competitors like the Chevrolet Equinox, Ford Escape, Hyundai Tucson, and Toyota RAV4, the CR-V’s interior space is at the front of the pack.

Additional interior comfort features include:

  • Heated front seats standard on EX and above
  • Leather seating surfaces on the EX-L trim
  • Multiple storage solutions including a configurable center console, large door pockets, sunglasses storage, and rear-seatback pockets
  • Available power-adjustable driver’s seat with memory settings

Cargo Space

Almost at the top of its class in terms of cargo space, the CR-V has 39.3 cubic feet of cargo room behind the rear seats and 76.5 cubic feet with them folded — the best in its class. The rear floor is adjustable, and gas models include a spare tire underneath.

The CR-V Hybrid’s cargo space is slightly reduced due to its battery pack, offering 36.3 cubic feet behind the rear seats and 71.8 cubic feet with them folded.

Technology & Infotainment

All 2026 CR-V models now come standard with a 9-inch touchscreen, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and a wireless charging pad.

Honda’s software is intentionally streamlined and easy to learn, with plenty of physical controls retained alongside the touchscreen. Additional tech highlights by trim include:

  • EX-L: 2-inch digital instrument cluster, 8-speaker 320-watt sound system, power tailgate, and auto-dimming rearview mirror
  • Sport Touring Hybrid: Google Built-In with Google Assistant, Google Maps, and Google Play apps
  • Upper trims: Available Bose premium audio system
  • Rear USB charging ports for rear-seat passengers on all trims

Safety

The 2026 CR-V is one of the safest vehicles in its segment. Honda Sensing is standard on every trim and includes:

  • Collision-mitigating braking
  • Road-departure mitigation
  • Lane-departure warning and lane-keeping assist
  • Forward collision warning
  • Adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go

Additional available safety features include:

  • Blind-spot monitoring (standard on EX and above)
  • Rear cross-traffic alert
  • Traffic sign recognition
  • Snow mode on AWD models for confident acceleration and braking on slippery roads
