Rotating Tires on 2WD Vehicles

There are two types of 2-wheel drive vehicles; front-wheel drive and rear-wheel drive. With front-wheel drive the power is sent to the front tires, and with rear-wheel drive it goes to the rear tires. Whichever set of tires that is driven by direct engine power will wear down faster than the others; that’s why it is important to routinely rotate them. Here are a few things that Guam drivers should know about FWD and RWD tire rotation:

  • In general, tires should be rotated every 5,000 to 7,500 miles, but consult your owner’s manual to confirm the schedule of your vehicle.
  • When rotating FWD tires, the rear right tire will go on the front left. However, when moving the front tires to the back, keep them on the same side.
  • When rotating tires on a RWD car, invert the process above. Flip sides when moving the front tires to the back, but keep the rear tires on the same side when moving them forward.
  • Where and how you drive will affect how often your vehicle will need a tire rotation. The service experts at Triple J Guam can help you to design a maintenance schedule that will fit your driving habits.

AWD Tire Rotation Tips

The tires on an all-wheel drive vehicle should be rotated every 3,000 to 5,000 miles, but you should consult your owner’s manual to find the recommended schedule for your specific vehicle. In AWD vehicles the power is sent to all wheels, but at different levels according to the road or off-road conditions you drive in. If you are uncertain about whether your vehicle is due for a tire rotation, bring it in to our Palau area service center and have one of our certified auto techs inspect the tires.

Why Rotate Tires?

You’ll get more life out of your tires, and enjoy better performance and fuel efficiency when you stay up to date with your scheduled tire rotations. Some of the other advantages of regular tire rotations include:

  • Better traction on wet, slippery roads
  • Reduced noise from the tires
  • Less wear and tear on the drivetrain

To continue to drive safely and with confidence on Federated States of Micronesia roads, you should make sure that tire rotations are included in your maintenance plan.
